Speaker Addressing Audience

The Chemical Scaffolding of Our Bodies, and Why We Want to Build It Ourselves

This is the revision project for WRIT 3500, Writing Design and Circulation. This is a complete genre-flip revision of the grant proposal I wrote for CHEM 3705, a piece that is also in this portfolio. I revised that original text from an academic research grant proposal into the script for a TED Talk. There was a ton to tackle logistically here, as not only was I effectively jumping mediums and shifting from an audience that reads to an audience that hears, but the tone also completely shifted. The former was written clinically for experts in the field, the latter is a more casual infotalk, meant to be presented to a general audience of people who probably have no clue about anything beyond surface-level chemistry, if that. If you can't explain something in layman's terms, you don't understand it, and I like to think that I understand the contents of my grant proposal project, so I like to think that this turned out pretty well. Was definitely a challenge, though.
