Ashes to Ashes to Ashes
This was a poem I wrote for ENGL 2002, or Creative Poetry Writing. It may shock you to know that this class revolved around learning about and creating poetry. Poetry is something I never clicked too well with, at least relative to other genres of writing. We had to create 10 poems total for this class if I recall, and of those 10, this one is the best one that I have. During this class, every student would have one of their poems peer-reviewed by the rest of the class, and this is also the poem I chose for that, so it's already a bit battle tested. I think more than anything, I learned with this piece that I can write something that's at least pretty decent in genres that I don't know well or have a good grasp on, which is pretty reassuring.
